SOPERA delivers much enhanced SOA Suite

Release 3.2 comes with new functions for data integration, as well as system management and monitoring / Open Source provider optimistic for 2009

Bonn, 19. March 2009. The Open-Source service provider SOPERA is offering its users a mature platform for SOA (Service Oriented Architecture). With the new and immediately available Release 3.2, the functional scope of the suite has again been expanded significantly: It now also includes integration components for Talend Open Studio, the leading Open Source software for data integration, and Hyperic HQ, the multiple prize-winning Open Source solution for system management and monitoring. The release is completed by expanded platform support and new security features. Like the previous version, Release 3.2 is available in a free-of-charge Community version and an Enterprise Edition with integrated support.

The new release of the SOA suite SOPERA ASF, which has been proven over many years, is evidence that all key areas of SOA technology can today be covered by one Open Source solution. That is interesting for users especially in times of tight resources: “The economic environment is strengthening companies’ interest in Open Source products enormously. With our Release 3.2, businesses get a complete package for all integration scenarios, from small to large,” says Harald Weimer, Managing Director of SOPERA.

Integration at high level

Already in the previous version, SOPERA ASF had extensive integration functionality. With Release 3.2, SOPERA users also have access to the large number of adapters integrated in Talend Open Studio, with which an “out-of-the-box” connection to business applications, business intelligence systems or databases will succeed. SOPERA ASF thus again facilitates integration of services in an already existing, heterogeneous, environment.

For businesses, however, the cooperation between Talend and SOPERA means still more, namely the opportunity to build up and structure a distributed integration environment free of license costs. “We didn’t simply leave it at adding the strengths of our products together. Rather, we have dovetailed the features of SOPERA ASF and Talend Open Studio with one another,” explains Dr. Ricco Deutscher, Managing Director of SOPERA. So SOPERA services can conveniently be managed with the Talend Open Studio Job Designer, the central management console for integration processes. At the same time, systems that offer or call up a service can launch and control Talend integration processes.

Meaningful service management

SOPERA ASF already has interfaces at its disposal to effectively monitor the operation of an SOA. That service management has been expanded with the new release by integration of Hyperic HQ, the leading Open Source solution for system management and monitoring. Hyperic HQ installs itself within a few minutes and immediately delivers the parameters for more than 70 different technologies across all customary operating systems. “The Auto Discovery capabilities of Hyperic HQ simplify implementation of sophisticated system management substantially”, continues Harald Weimer. With conventional management systems, one needs to manually configure all the systems and services to be monitored; Hyperic HQ on the other hand automatically recognizes all systems running. Via the central Hyperic HQ control console the parameters for the SOPERA key service indicators can also be managed conveniently.

Support for new systems and security standards

Beside the functional expansion in terms of data integration and system management, Release 3.2 also boasts other new features. As a further plug-in, for instance, SOPERA ASF now also integrates Apache ActiveMQ, a leading open source messaging server. Also new is the support for Java 6, the 64-bit versions of Windows and Linux, version 5.2 of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows Vista. As another innovation, the messaging has been improved still further in terms of security and robustness. The procedure for high availability has been made more flexible through compatibility with software-based fallback and load distribution solutions.

As part of the security concept came integration of the WS Trust Standard, Eclipse Higgins SAML Token Service, which offers users comprehensive back-up facilities with a centralized token service. The so-called Security Tokens serve to authenticate users in distributed systems. The now centralized generation of those tokens permits better control of security measures and at the same time simplified design of the security processes.
