Deutsche Post World Net places SOA platform with Eclipse

IT service provider SOPERA will drive forward development of the platform at Eclipse

Bonn, 15 May 2007: After already announcing in April that it plans to make its SOA platform also available to other companies by the end of the year, Deutsche Post World Net has now secured a key basis for development with the Eclipse Foundation “Integration in one of the world’s largest Open Source Communities generates economies of scale in terms of further development and the pace of innovation of the existing platform, says Dr. Johannes Helbig, member of the divisional board of the MAIL Division of Deutsche Post. “Deutsche Post benefits – and with it all user companies seeking a mature and future-proof SOA solution.
Deutsche Post’s IT service provider, SOPERA GmbH, will play a leading role in further development of the platform as a board member of the Eclipse Foundation. SOPERA managing director Dr. Ricco Deutscher describes the development perspectives: “It’s all about establishing an open-source, modular and standard-based SOA platform as part of a future open source stack. The Eclipse Foundation supports this project in particular with a portfolio of mature technologies and its effective governance structures.
For the Eclipse Foundation this milestone is just as important. “We are excited by SOPERA’s proposal for a SOA runtime framework project at Eclipse, says Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation. In particular, he points out the experience gained over more than five years at Deutsche Post with its Enterprise SOA platform: experience that will now flow into the Eclipse project. “We’re also pleased by SOPERA’s decision to join the Board as a Strategic Developer Member.
